Thermal underwear is unique in that it is able to keep you warm and dry without being the bulky mass that people often have to revert to in cold weather. Ideally the most clothes that you should wear are two layers to remain comfortable and mobile.

Thermal underwear is the layer of clothes worn next to the skin and works like an added two layers of clothing. This is because the material is made into a two-ply fabric which works to firstly keep moisture off the skin (a process called wicking) and to trap the heat against the body. The two-ply characteristic comes from the blend of fabric used to make the garment such as a combination of wool and polyester.

Thermal underwear works in the following way: firstly it draws moisture away from the body to prevent it from cooling down. Next, body heat is trapped against the skin to insulate the body against the cold outside – thus protecting the wearer from the cold for many hours. Depending on the type of cold, there are three types of thermals: Lightweight (for mild to cold days), medium weight (for cold to very cold days) and heavy weight (for very cold and extremely cold conditions.)
